Modular Construction in Primary Care Centers: speed, efficiency, and quality

21 November, 2024

CompactHabit has recently built Primary Care Centers (CAP) for the Catalan Health Service in Tarragona, Igualada, Esplugues de Llobregat, and Santa Perpètua de Mogoda using the innovative three-dimensional modular construction system.

This system allows reducing delivery times by up to 70%, optimizing costs and making it ideal for projects that require speed and efficiency. The modules are fully manufactured and equipped at the Cardona factory, minimizing disruptions at construction sites and ensuring that existing infrastructures can continue their operations throughout the process.

These projects, which include both new buildings and extensions of existing facilities, have been led by Manel Parés, from the architecture firm MANCIÑERIAS/PARÉS arquitectes associats, who highlights the multiple advantages of the eMii modular system and the industrialized construction process of CompactHabit:

“Modular construction has significantly optimized construction times. In projects like the extension of the CAP Torreforta, the work was completed on-site in just 18 weeks, a significant reduction that allowed for the continuity of healthcare services without interruptions.”
“The modular system offers great flexibility to adapt spaces to the needs of each project. In addition, factory manufacturing ensures thorough quality control and minimal environmental impact, with a positive effect on resource management and costs.”

Primary Care Centers built with CompactHabit’s industrialized construction system:

CUAP Baix Vallès (Vallès Occidental, Barcelona)
Construction of a new primary care urgency center of 1,081 m² using the eMii-CS modular construction system. The new center is developed on the ground floor, using 21 three-dimensional modules. The intervention consists of two volumes connected by an ambulance parking porch. The main volume houses the primary care urgencies service, while the second volume is for the emergency medical services (SEM). The transport and assembly of the modules was completed in just 4 days.

Extension of CAP Torreforta – La Granja (Tarragona)
Renovation and extension of 2,671 m² using the eMii-CS modular construction system. The intervention resulted in a three-story building, utilizing a total of 58 three-dimensional modules. The extension provides the center with 51 consultation rooms, allowing for expanded services such as pediatrics, sexual and reproductive health care, rehabilitation, and emergencies, among others. It also includes new general medicine consultations and a community activity room. The eMii industrialized construction process reduced on-site work to 18 weeks.

CAP Igualada (Anoia, Barcelona)
Extension of 358 m² with 7 industrialized modules using the eMii-CS modular construction system. The primary care center is expanded with 12 new consultation rooms for the pediatrics unit, with a waiting room featuring a central courtyard.

CAP Lluís Millet (Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona)
Extension of the CAP in Esplugues de Llobregat with 7 three-dimensional modules, covering a built-up area of 293 m². The intervention includes 8 consultation rooms, a reception and waiting area, storage, and facilities room to meet the growing demand and needs of the existing equipment.

CompactHabit’s modular construction allows for the optimization of time in healthcare projects, providing efficient solutions that meet the sector’s needs. With its innovative methodology, CompactHabit continues to enhance the quality and speed of building healthcare infrastructure.
